Random Thoughts, Sights, Sounds - A Potpourri of Knowledge

Today is 1AM on the Chicks Dig Morning McLovin Blog - 1 After Manny and the sun rose, Dunkin Donuts opened for business, people went about their lives and the world known as Red Sox Nation did not come crashing down in a heap of rubble.

Day 1 of Life after Manny means that the ownership, front office and the 25 players in the clubhouse can no longer use 'Manny Being Manny' as an excuse for their poor play anymore. It's put up or shut up time for this team.

Will this trade give them the boost they had after trading Nomar in 2004 or will the post all-star break slide continue because the team is worse (in terms of talent on the field) than they were yesterday? I know Manny needed to be sent out of town, but I still think that 5 players and $7 million for Jason Bay, and get nothing else in return, is way too much to have paid.

I heard on the radio this morning that several hours after making the trade that neither LA GM Ned Colletti or manager Joe Torre had talked with Manny yet. Both had left messages for him. Looks like Manny's career as a Dodger is getting off on the right foot.

By the way, baseball's trade deadline day and the NFL Day are the two most exciting non-sport days in sports.

As an aside note: I was at Manny's first Fenway game in a Red Sox uniform back in 2001. He hit a three-run homer in the first on the very first pitch to tie Tampa 3-3, on a cold, wet, otherwise dreary opening day at Fenway and now I get the see the first game of the Jason Bay era live and in person this evening as the Sox battle the Oakland A's (I thought that was weird).

Looks like the Inside Track girls (and OK! magazine) are ruining Giesele's potential for a 'surprise' aspect for Tom Brady's 31st birthday gift. While a 12-month calendar of flattering Gisele photos might seem like a perfect gift, who wants a calendar full of pics of your girlfriend/spouse? Though it does serve as a reminder to all of your buddies whose dating the hottest chick.

"Hey, Matt (Light) come over here a minute. What month we in - January. Hey look here's Gisele rolling around on a beach - all wet, wearing little clothing. Isn't that nice? Have you seen this? You want another look? Want to see what day the Super Bowl is on in February?"

"Go to hell Tom. I'll remember this the next time Dwight Freeney is lined up across from me."

An even better gift is 12 flattering photos of Tom's 12 favorite hotties (other than Gisele of course). That would be the perfect gift.

Finally, the site will be quiet next week as I'm talking the week off to see the land of Story's and Santa. Have a great weekend and week.
