Today's Randomness will start off with something that is a real enjoyable part of summer - drinking. Having a few adult beverages is a good way to pass the time during any part of the year, but there's something about sitting outside on a warm summer evening and having a couple beers (or any other beverage of choice) that's a little more refreshing.
The reason I'm now choosing to bring up drinking is that there has been several articles and studies conducted recently regarding drinking that are very interesting.
Once you read both studies that have been in the news lately, it makes you sit back, ponder and think, "They needed to spend money to conduct a study for something as obvious as that?"
The first study that came out this week says, that
'beer goggles' do exist and that scientists have proven that people really do look better after a couple of drinks.
I didn't know that there was a huge outcry from the public needing to have scientific evidence to prove that beer goggles are real. Ask any boy over the age of 14 and he'll be able to tell you how much attractive girls are after throwing back a beer.
The second study of the week announced to the world that
sports stadiums serve alcohol to minors and intoxicated fans.
Shocking...Absolutely shocking. Again, they needed a study for this. The researchers could have just checked out the 'Awkard McLovin getting dug by Chicks' blog
to find two examples of this.
The third article about drinking that came out this week was by far and away the most interesting, as nearly 100 presidents of colleges and universities across this great land want to
drop the drinking age back to 18 to curtail binge drinking.
Talk about picking a battle that you have no chance of winning. Since these are presidents of colleges and universities, we are talking about 100 of the most intelligent, knowledgeable people around and they choose to try to defend their argument by saying they want to lower the drinking age to 18 because you want people to drink in moderation not to excess. Not a smart move.
You want to lower the drinking age to 18 - fine, but defend your argument by saying that if you can go to war for this country (and die for this country), if you can get married (that's when you should really be allowed to drink) and if you can decide on what leaders you want running this country all at 18, then you should be allowed legally to have a drink.
The sound of the week comes from Metallica, as Thursday was a day that Metallica fans thought would never come. The first single,
The Day That Never Comes off their upcoming album
Death Magnetic, (which hits stores Sept 12) was released. You can hear the new song
here.
First there was R.E.M., then Motley Crue, and now Metallica, all bands with their new releases this year deciding to go back and put out the sound that made them so successful in the 80's and early '90s.
The Day That Never Comes might arguably be Metallica's best song since And Justice for All was released - that was
19 years ago. It definitely is better than anything that came out on Load, Re-Load or St. Anger.
Enjoy the new song and have a great weekend.
